Thanks to the huge success of It’s a Knockout last year we have been able to order our new WAV for Amelie! On the Motability scheme we are entitled to a car that fits her wheelchair in, but we only have it for 5 years and then you can either buy it outright or lease another one! It would be too expensive to buy it ourselves, so we had no choice but to change our Kia but sadly not for a new Kia as the company have decided not to convert them anymore.
So we have chosen a VW from Brook Miller Mobility, who have always been on hand to help us with Fundraising and ordering the WAV’s. It’s not the car/van I imagined I would be driving when I passed my test many years ago – but needs must!
We tried to apply for a grant to help us with the advance payment but we didn’t qualify but at least we had a voucher for £500 from Motability to help a little bit! We wanted to save costs and have the lift access for the wheelchair but our driveway and the road just weren’t conducive to this, so we had to go for the ramp, which we know works, just costs more! some pictures of a similar car below!
We have contributed too so we can have a drop down DVD player fitted into the van (£95) to help out on long journeys to Manchester on the dreaded M62! So this should be ready for us sometime in June/July but it has virtually depleted all of Amelie’s fund!!
Fortunately we have a lot coming up – It’s a Knockout being our Main Event – a two day spectacular this year so we can accommodate all of our excited teams and dedicated supporters!! More to follow in my next post about this – but the dates for your diary are 25th AND 26th June!
So as well as It’s a Knockout this year, we have four amazing people who came to me asking if they could help raise some funds for Amelie!! We cannot thank you enough for thinking about her – individual fundraisers are ALWAYS so appreciated!!
Deyrick Allen and his daughter Niamh, have very kindly offered to run the Liverpool Marathon on 29th May this year!
Deyrick has known Jon (Amelie’s Dad) for about 25 years, they met all that time ago at College in Stoke and he has met Amelie on several occasions at family/friends’ gatherings!
We were blown away with his offer to take on this big challenge to help us to help Amelie and we want to wish both him and Niamh the very best of luck with the run!! Not long now!!
Deyrick has set up a just giving page at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/deyrick-allen-2?utm_id
If you want to follow their progress or make a donation to help him achieve his pledge! Good luck Deyrick and Niamh!! ALL the best and we cannot thank you enough for supporting Amelie’s Fund! x
Amelie’s next guardian Angel is Natalie Mason who also contacted me after she had secured a place in The Great North run this year, wanting to raise funds for Amelie!
Natalie’s two boys go to the same school as Amelie and so she had been following Amelie’s progress through her last hospital stay and school newsletters!
Of course I said “YES PLEASE” and again – couldn’t thank her enough!! Natalie will be competing up in Newcastle on Sunday 11th September of this year. Good luck with the training Natalie and the actual run!! We appreciate every minute of your time spent doing this for Amelie!! x
And last but by no means least (just listing in date order!!) – The lovely Sarah Herbertson asked me if she could do a Charity Bike Ride for Amelie’s Fund! Sarah is the daughter of my sister’s very good friend, Lesley, who I have also known for many years and she has followed Amelie through all her operations!
Sarah works for Morrisons and she has managed to get them to double her pledge through their foundation!! Fabulous Sarah!! Thank you SO MUCH!!
Sarah hopes to cycle from Leeds to York on Friday 24th September – good luck Sarah and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for thinking of Amelie!! x
So lots going on this year! I will be posting more details about It’s a Knockout VERY soon! Just need to get Amelie through her next little procedure at Manchester on Monday then I will be all over it!! In the meantime you can always send me a message via the facebook page to register your interest if you haven’t already done so and I will get back to you!!
Huge thanks from Amelie, Jon and myself – we wouldn’t be where we are today without all you amazing people! x
